Sithawaka Odyssey Special train service inaugurated with the object of promoting tourism in Sithawaka area has been suspended for about two months much to the anxiety of those engaging in tourism.
The public said the Railways Department has suspended the issue of tickets for the train. They said the Odyssey Special was inaugurated for the convenience of tourists who travelled to Waga by train and visited the tourist attractions of Labugama and Kalatuwawa reservoirs, Sithawaka Botanical Gardens, Kumariella, Ranmuduella and Udaella waterfalls. The project had provided transport facilities by that train to their return journey as well. Commenting on the issue Addl. General Manager, Railways V.S.Polwatta said the Odyssey train service was running at a loss for want of adequate passengers even to meet the cost. However, he said the train would be available to anyone who reserve the entire train for a trip on payment decided by the Department.
