Suspected Israeli national found living in tent on Trincomalee beach detained

A foreign national suspected to be an Israeli citizen, found living in a tent on the Manayaweli beach for three days without a passport, visa, or identity card, has been ordered to be detained at the Mirihana Detention Centre for Foreign Nationals until August 20.   

The order was issued by the Trincomalee Magistrate to the Trincomalee Harbour Police.   

The Magistrate also instructed the administrative officer of the Mirihana Detention Centre to conduct an inquiry and submit a report on the suspect by the same date.   

The man told police he had arrived from Arugam Bay. However, authorities said he failed to produce any documents to verify his claimed Israeli nationality.
