Sri Lanka and Thailand have taken fresh steps to strengthen their centuries-old bonds rooted in Theravada Buddhism, with a visiting Sri Lankan delegation holding high-level discussions in Bangkok aimed at expanding religious and cultural cooperation, the embassy said in a statement.
The meeting, organized by the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Bangkok, brought together the delegation led by the Most Venerable Dr. Kirinde Assaji Thero, Chief Incumbent of Gangaramaya Temple, Colombo, and senior officials of the Office of National Buddhism of Thailand, a key government agency under the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Buddhist affairs.
The visiting dignitaries called on Associate Professor Dr. Chachapon Jayaphorn, Acting Director of the Secretariat Office of the Sangha Supreme Council.
The discussions centered on deepening the historic cultural and spiritual linkages between the two nations, exploring new avenues for collaboration, and building on recent milestones, including this year’s commemoration of 70 years of diplomatic relations.
Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, highlighted the significance achievements of cultural and religious ties with Thailand.
