Sergeant and wife drown leaving behind infant child

A Police Sergeant and his wife had fallen into the Kandepuhulpolaoya canal at Madawalthenna in Bogahakumbura off Badulla and drowned in their attempt to cross the canal on Monday night (17).

The victims Achintha Lakmal Madusanka (37), of Kebithigollewa STF camp and his wife H. M. Nalika Dhananjani (32) were residents of Kandepuhulpola in Bogahakumbura.   

The woman’s body, drifted away by floods, had been recovered by the residents of the area about 300 metres away from the scene and her husband’s about ten kilometres away at Boralanda. The body of the latter had been recovered by the Army. Investigations revealed that they were parents of an infant child and that they had been on their way back after attending their vegetable farm.   

A police team under OIC Bogahakumbura Police CI D.M. R. Bandara is conducting further investigations on the instructions of ASP Ruwan Fernando.
