A 12 year old schoolboy who had been kidnapped by a group of individuals had managed to escape while he was being taken in a van.
The boy is a resident of Udagama in Ulapane and a Grade seven student of Gampola Wickramabahu Maha Vidyalaya. He was on his way back after attending a tuition class when was forced into a van and was taken away. He said three individuals threatened him and that thus followed him to the bus stand. When he boarded the bus one of them had entered the bus and sat near him.When he tried to get down at Ulapane, the individual who was seated near him had taken out a Kris knife and threatened him with death and prevented him from going out. When the bus reached Gadolbokkuwa area. The boy said the stranger put his hand around the neck and just then he lost consciousness. `However when he gained consciousness he found himself in a van without anyone else on board. He had attempted to open the door, but it had been locked, He had then jumped out of the van through a shutter and run along the road until he met a trishaw and told the driver about the incident and informed his mother over the drivers mobile phone. On information from the trishaw driver, the officers of the Women and Children’s Bureau of the Hatton police rushed to the scene and took charge of the boy. Later, the police had called the boy’s parents and took them to Gampola police, Later they were referred to Ethgala police for further investigations.OIC Ethgala police Senerath Kekulandara said the abductors could be identified from the CCTV recordings in the town and that police would examine them.
