SLPP, SJB sends overtures to Dayasiri

The SJB could lose a seat in Parliament if Jayasekera decides to join the SLPP

Both the Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna (SLPP) and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) have sent overtures to MP Dayasiri Jayasekera, Daily Mirror learnt.   

SLPP Spokesman Sanjeewa Edirimanne said MP Jayasekera could join his party and work with the party leader Namal Rajapaksa. “ Dayasiri can join SLPP Leader Namal Rajapaksa and engage in opposition politics “ Edirimanne told media.   

Meanwhile it was reported on social media that MP Jayasekera is to be appointed as SJB Assistant Leader. When contacted by Daily Mirror,  Jayasekera said the SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa did invite him to join his party. “ Mr. Premadasa invited me to join the SJB but I have not decided on anything yet,” he said.   

Jayasekera also said he is willing to take over the SLFP leadership if it is offered to him.   

MP Jayasekera contested the 2024 general election on the SJB ticket while being a member of the SLFP.
