SL Coast Guard seizes massive haul of Kendu leaves

The Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) seized a significant consignment of Kendu leaves, weighing over 1,530 kilograms, off the Wellamankara sea area in Wennappuwa on November 14, the SL Coast Guard said.

The operation was launched following a tip-off received by the Coast Guard. Acting on this intelligence, SLCG units conducted a special search in the designated sea area, leading to the discovery and recovery of thirty-three (33) sacks abandoned in the water.  

Authorities believe the smugglers abandoned the illicit cargo and fled upon noticing the presence of the Coast Guard, preventing the contraband from being brought ashore.  

The haul is slated to be handed over to the Katunayake Customs Preventive Office for further investigation and legal proceedings.
