Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) members should be more realistic and should cooperate with the United National Party (UNP) and other opposition parties, newly appointed UNP Vice Chairman Navin Dissanayake said yesterday.
Mr. Dissanayake was referring to comments made by some SJBers and the reports which said SJB would go it alone at the Local Government polls.

“One should use their intelligence and cooperate in the process of forming a common opposition alliance. SJB cannot be successful by going it alone,” he told media.
Meanwhile former SJB MP Bandula lal Bandarigoda said his party should only work with gentlemen politicians in the UNP. We don’t want to work with those who strive for their political survival,” he said.
SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara said Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa should be the leader of a common opposition alliance. “SJB is the largest opposition party in Parliament and therefore Mr. Premadasa should be the leader of a broad opposition alliance,” he said.
In another development the SJB announced yesterday they have begun interviews to select suitable candidates for the Local Government election.
