Representatives of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) discussed electoral reforms with the United Nations Electoral Needs Assessment Mission, led by Michelle Griffin, Director of the mission.

The discussion focused on key areas, including the electoral process (nominations, voting, and counting), possible reforms to electoral law, such as quota systems and the PR system, and the importance of strengthening democratic practices in an increasingly digitised environment.

SJB Passara organiser Sanjay Letchumanar, who participated in the discussion, said the group also discussed effective election monitoring and ways and means to ensure minority representation in the elected bodies.

MPs Chamindrani Kiriella, Mujibur Rahman and SJB Member of Moratuwa Municipal Council Lihini Fernando were among those who participated in the meeting, in addition to Mr. Lechumanar.
