Rotary District Governor Elect Delvin Pereira to attend Rotary International Assembly in USA

Delvin Pereira, the Rotary District Governor Elect, is set to travel to the United States to represent Rotary District 3220, which encompasses Sri Lanka and Maldives. He will participate in the Rotary International Assembly scheduled from February 9 to 13, 2025, at Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando, Florida.  

The annual Rotary International Assembly serves as a pivotal training event for newly elected District Governors and their partners, who will assume their roles starting July 1. This gathering not only focuses on capacity building but also facilitates networking among 515 Rotary District leaders from around the globe. The assembly offers a platform for leaders to share insights and explore collaborations in their humanitarian efforts to benefit communities worldwide.  

Delvin Pereira, a seasoned banker affiliated with Commercial Bank, Seylan Bank, and currently a director on the Board of Amana Bank, has been elected as the District Governor for Rotary District 3220 during the 2025/26 term. In an interview, he expressed enthusiasm about the potential for raising funds through partnerships with Rotary Districts in other regions, particularly in the United States—the headquarters of the world’s oldest service organization.  

A notable initiative underway is the “Rotary for Little Hearts” project, which aims to raise US$1 million via Rotary District 3220 to enhance pediatric cardiac care at Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital (LRH). Delvin elaborated on plans to mobilize the expertise of Rotary members, comprised of leading professionals and prominent business figures, in collaboration with various corporations, particularly banks. Their focus will be on nurturing young entrepreneurs—an essential aspect of the country’s economic recovery.  

Furthermore, Delvin indicated interest from neighbouring Rotary districts in funding community development projects, including rainwater harvesting and providing critical medical equipment for hospitals. He intends to leverage his participation at the Rotary International Assembly to enhance leadership capabilities within his District and strengthen relationships with fellow leaders, maximizing the networking opportunities presented by the event.
