RDA to erect safety guard rails to prevent accidents in the hill country

The Road Development Authority (RDA) has taken steps to install safety guard rails along hazardous embankment points in the hill country, following a recent surge in road accidents.  
 Deputy Director General of the RDA’s Road Safety and Traffic Management    Division, K. Chandrakumara told media that, construction will be carried out in the Uva, Sabaragamuwa, and Central Provinces under the proposed project.    Accordingly, iron fences covering approximately 50 kilometers will be built in identified high-risk zones across the three districts.   This decision comes after 15 people were killed when a bus ran off the road and down a ravine in Ella Wellawaya in September this year.
