Authorities have stepped up investigations into the Middeniya chemical stash linked to methamphetamine (ICE) production, with tests confirming the majority of samples contained drug-related substances.  This follows the detection of chemicals in Middeniya, which have been identified as key ingredients for producing methamphetamine.  A senior official at the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board (NDDCB) told Daily Mirror that instructions have been received to expedite the investigations.
According to a report submitted by the NDDCB to the Western Province North Crimes Division, 17 out of 20 samples collected from the site tested positive for methamphetamine-related substances.
The stash was unearthed on September 5 following the interrogation of organized criminal figure “Backhoe Saman,” who is currently in custody.
Subsequent investigations also led to the discovery of similar chemical stocks in Netolpitiya and Kandana. Furthermore, the NDDCB said the samples from those two locations are still under examination, with reports being expected to be handed over next week.
