Probation officer arrested for rape

A probation officer was arrested yesterday by Ampara Division Women and Children’s Bureau on suspicion of rape of two underage girls in a Home for the Children in Dehiattakandiya in Ampara.  
A police team under OIC Women and Children’s Bureau CI Dayani Gamage had carried out the raid. She said the suspect had raped one of the girls and sexually abused the other.  
The Matron of the Children’s Home, who received information on the incident through a fellow inmate of one of the victims, had informed the police.  
Police said the suspect had fled from the area when the police initiated investigations and that he was arrested at his hideout in Mahiyangana.  
He was to be produced before Dehiattakandiya Magistrate yesterday.  
OIC Ampara Division Women and Children’s Bureau CI Dayani Gamage, OIC Crime Investigation Branch IP Saumya Balasuriiya, OIC Dehiattakandiya Women and Children’s Bureau SI Chandrika are conducting further investigations on the instructions of ASP Sumith Priyantha Bandara.
