Police seize large stock of adulterated foreign liquor

A large stock of adulterated foreign liquor was seized and a suspect arrested by the Ambalantota Police during a raid carried out on a house in the Maurapura village.

The suspect had manufactured large stock of adulterated foreign liquor by mixing local Arrack with chemicals, colourings and flavours and had supplied them in bulk to hotels and restaurants in Colombo. Investigations revealed that the price of the sub standard foreign liquor manufactured by the suspect had been sold at Rs.6000 a bottle. During the raid, the police seized the chemicals and other material used by the suspect.

A Senior Police Officer said the king pin behind the racket was a resident of Beragama in Ambalantota and that he too would be arrested soon. A police team under SI Senaratne and Sergeant 52548 Ajith had carried out the raid on the instructions of OIC of the Ambalantota Police CI Jagath Wijegunaratne and SSP Tangalle Division Ravindra Ambepitiya.
