Opposition which refrained from nominating it’s members to parliamentary committees and boycotted participating in committees is expected to change its decision if the ruling party comes up with a favourable response to its requests.
Chief Opposition Whip Gayantha Karunathilaka told Daily Mirror that he on behalf of the opposition informed the Speaker and the ruling party that they would make nominations to committees if they receive a favourable response to repeated requests for increasing of Opposition slots.
“ We informed our stand during the party leaders meeting on Saturday,” he said.
“ Leader of the House Bimal Ratnayake assured that the ruling party will inform its stand to us within this week. We shall then nominate our members to committees depending on the government’s response, “ Karunathilaka added.
The opposition has been at loggerheads with the government for allegedly reducing opposition slots in committees. The opposition which made this allegations has been lobbying for increase of its slots in committees.
