Heavy rain experienced in the central hills has caused obstructions to traffic on highways and bi-roads including Hatton – Nuwara Eliya and Hatton - Colombo highways.
Fall of trees and mounds of earth rolled down from hills had caused obstructions to vehicular movement. Telephone lines in the affected areas had been damaged causing interruptions to telecommunication services.
Meanwhile, Norton Bridge - Maskeliya - Sri Pada road through Ginigathhena is closed for ten days from yesterday due to the caving in of a bridge.   The Road Development Authority had taken steps to construct a new bridge. RDA requested the drivers to use the Kalugala - Polpitiya - Laxapana Road and Hatton - Norton Bridge road until construction work of the bridge is over.
Residents of the area pointed out that the bridge had been in a dilapidated condition for more than four years and it was on the verge of collapse.
