Amid the current economic situation in the country, the government has decided not to import vehicles for Ministers. Instead, the Ministers will arrange their own transport based on the facilities available in their respective electoral seats and districts, Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said.

Addressing the media, he reaffirmed that, in line with the National People’s Power (NPP) policy, no vehicle permits will be granted to Ministers.

However, a government-provided vehicle will be allocated to each Minister strictly for official duties during their five-year term. To facilitate this, a pool vehicle management system will be necessary for government operations.
Given the economic constraints, the government is currently unable to establish a vehicle pool or import new vehicles.

“The Ministers will continue to address public issues, but providing them with vehicles is not our priority,” Dr. Jayatissa said.

“NPP Ministers will endure the difficulties and fulfill their duties. We urge Opposition members to find their own alternative transport solutions,” he added.

“Despite recent relaxations on vehicle imports to support the economy, the government has imposed certain restrictions due to financial limitations. Future adjustments to these policies may be considered once economic conditions improve,” the Minister added.
