MP Withana revealed in Parliament that he had received death threats and requested the Speaker to take action on the matter

Opposition MP Jagath Withana yesterday said he intends to file a defamation case against IGP Priyantha Weerasooriya for making a false allegation against him.
MP Withana who denied the claim made by the IGP that he had connections with the underworld told Daily Mirror that he intends filing legal action against the IGP. He said the case would be filed within the coming days.
“I am also preparing to raise a privilege issue against the IGP. “ I hope to handover a complaint to Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne when Parliament meets on November 7 2025,” he said.
He also confirmed the report that Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had given him some advice when he met him at a function.
It was reported that Former President Rajapaksa had told him to raise the issue against the IGP in Parliament and table all relevant documents pertaining to his issue.
In another development Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa came up with an allegation that reports received by the police with regard to the MP had been manipulated. “Don’t manipulate reports and turn those who lodge complaints into criminals,” he said at a public function recently.
MP Withana revealed in Parliament that he had received death threats and requested the Speaker to take action on the matter. Later the IGP was quoted saying that the MP had received death threats as he was engaged with the underworld.
