Legislation to call for fresh nominations for local government election presented to House

• Bill provides provisions to hold elections to 319 local bodies

The Local Authorities Elections (Special Provisions) Bill which provides provisions to call fresh nominations and hold local government elections which was postponed was presented to Parliament yesterday.  

Section 15 (1) of the Bill the nominations which have already been called for the local government election will be deemed as cancelled.  

Deposits made under section 29 of the ordinance in respect of candidates nominated by any political party or independent group will be refunded on the production of receipt issued to such person under the subsection (3) of the section 29 of the Ordinance. 

The Bill provides provisions to hold elections to 319 local bodies.
