The final competition to represent Sri Lanka in the Grand Finale of the 20th “Chinese Bridge” International Competition will be held on Saturday, June 26th via Zoom Technology.
The ‘Chinese Bridge’ sponsored by the Chinese Government Center for Language Education and Cooperation since 2002 is exclusively open for international university undergraduate students who learn Chinese language, and has now become very popular among both Chinese people and those foreigners who are interested in Chinese language and culture all over the world. Its theme for this year is “One World - One Family”.
Under the auspices of the Chinese Embassy to Sri Lanka in Colombo, the competition for Sri Lankan university students is organized by the Confucius Institute of the University of Kelaniya, while the Confucius Institutes of the Universities of Colombo and Sabaragamuwa are the co-organizers of it.
Thirty one of Sri Lankan university students have already qualified for the final competition held in Sri Lanka and only two of them will be selected for the Grand Finale held in China: the student who wins the first-place will be qualified to represent Sri Lanka in the Grand Finale of the “Chinese Bridge” International Competition while the runners-up will be given an opportunity to visit China and watch the Finale.
Meanwhile, the Chinese government also grants a six-month Chinese university scholarship to each foreign university student who is qualified to represent their countries in the Grand Finale in China while a one-year special Chinese university scholarship will be granted to the students who become the first, second and third places in the Finale.

Except for last year, the Sri Lanka-Chinese Bridge International Competition has been organized by the University of Kelaniya since 2011 and last year it was organized by the University of Colombo. Notably, Sri Lankan students who have been qualified to participate in the Grand Finale of the Chinese Bridge Competition from 2011 onwards are the students from the University of Kelaniya.
