The current IGP is alleged to have been involved in a scam pertaining to procurement of 175,000 vests while a complaint has been lodged with the Commission to Investigate Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) with regard to the matter, an Opposition MP revealed in Parliament today.
MP Nalin Bandara Jayamaha said an audio clip pertaining to the scam has also been handed over to CIABOC.
“This audio clip has been handed over to the CID as well while it has also been leaked to social media. CID has been asked to probe the clip while it is perceived as a mudslinging act against the IGP,” the MP revealed.
Elaborating more on the scam, the MP said some 175,000 inferior quality vests have been purchased during the time the current IGP was in charge of the logistics unit of the police.
Also, the MP said the police are following double standards in carrying out operations. “All video clips on the arrest of Ishara Sewandi was released to the media but the videos on the arrest of Peliyagoda Pradeshiya Sabha NPP member’s husband were censored. Why these double standards? He questioned.
