Four-year-old boy killed by tipper truck at pedestrian crossing

A four-year-old boy was killed and his mother seriously injured after they were struck by a tipper truck at a pdestrian crossing near the Ampara General Hospital last evening(22).

The incident occurred around 6.15 PM. According to the Ampara Police, the victims were crossing the main road using the designated crosswalk when they were hit by the oncoming vehicle.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene. His 27-year-old mother who sustained critical injuries was immediately admitted to the hospital for treatment.

Police said that the suspected driver was arrested at the scene.
