Estranged wife hacked to death for refusing reunion

 A woman living in separation from her husband was hacked to death by the latter on Saturday night (08). Her daughter who intervened to save her mother had also received serious injuries.   
The victim Jayasinghe Mudiyanselage Lalani (50) was a resident of Meeoya in Puttalam and a mother of three children. She had been employed in the Middle East and returned to the country recently and living at her elder daughter’s house.   
Her husband had requested her to live with him only to be refused by her since he was a drunkard who had often quarreled with her and harassed her before she separated from him.   
On Saturday night, her husband armed with an axe, had arrived at her daughter’s house and assaulted his wife. His daughter who attempted to prevent it had received injuries was admitted to the Puttalam base hospital.   
Puttalam police are conducting investigations to arrest the absconding suspect.
