The Zonal Director of Education, N. Dulanjali, was prevented from leaving the Kantale Agrabodhi National School yesterday afternoon after she arrived with an official transfer letter for the school’s acting principal.   A group claiming to be members of the School Development Society locked the school gates and confined the Director inside the premises for nearly an hour. Several teachers were also seen remaining within the school grounds in support of the protest.

The transfer order was issued to Acting Principal by the Eastern Provincial Department of Education following an inquiry. However, the Director was unable to carry out the handover as tensions escalated.

Meanwhile, a group of parents gathered outside the school gates, chanting that the principal should leave if he had received a transfer.

Several police teams were deployed and police officers intervened, opened the gates, and enabled the Education Director to leave the premises safely.
