The Ministry of Defence yesterday (06) rejected allegations made in Parliament by MP Ramanathan Archuna, who claimed that a cache of weapons once belonging to former LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran was smuggled into the country via containers released by Customs.
Defense Secretary, Retired Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyyakontha, dismissed the accusation as “completely baseless and false,” asserting that there is no evidence to support such claims.
MP Archchuna told Parliament yesterday that the goods in the 323 controversial containers included weapons belonging to slain LTTE Leader V. Prabahakaran.
“I have been told that the containers carrying the goods belong to Prabhakaran. I may get shot for saying this as I have not been provided with security,” the MP said.
“Prabhakaran tried to import goods from Thailand before 2009,” he added.
