Daily meal charges of MPs have been increased to Rs 2000 from Rs 450 as per the decision made by the Housekeeping Committee of Parliament.
Member of the Housekeeping Committee Gamagedara Dissanayake said an MP will have to pay a sum of Rs 600 for breakfast, Rs 1,300 for lunch and Rs 100 for evening tea as per the price revision.
Breakfast cost only Rs 100, lunch Rs 300 and evening tea Rs 50 before the price revision.
The extra Rs 275 charged from an MP if he or she entertains a guest at the member’s canteen in Parliament remains the same.
“Daily meal charges for others will have to be increased accordingly” MP Dissanayake added.
Leader of the House Bimal Ratnayake on Wednesday said daily meal charges of MPs is being done in line with the mandate received by the NPP government to bring about new values.
