Customs to destroy 12Mn sticks of illicit cigarettes tomorrow

Sri Lanka Customs will destroy 12 million sticks of illicit cigarettes smuggled into the country tomorrow at Ceylon Tobacco Company compound in Kotahena.  

The illicit cigarettes are comprised of a variety of foreign brands, which has been smuggled into the country during the past few months through airports.  

The seized cigarettes will be destroyed in a crusher at a special facility inside the CTC.  

The stock of illegal goods is valued at Rs.1.8 billion. Sale and consumption of any foreign brand of cigarettes is prohibited in Sri Lanka.
