Country’s future relies on NPP:President

Claiming that only the National People’s Power (NPP) is existing as a political force in Sri Lanka now, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said yesterday the future of the country and its people are relying on the NPP.   
Addressing NPP’s May Day rally in Galle Face, he said the rival groups are no longer political movements but only a pile of scrap.   
The President said there is no challenge for the NPP outside and that the challenge is within the NPP.   
“The challenge is within ourselves. Our challenge is to face the contradictions and to adjust to new situations,” he said.   
The President said no one can expect outcomes within six months and that the government has laid a strong foundation to take the country forward with a proper plan.   
“There is no shortcut to yield outcomes. No one can expect outcomes within six months,’ he said.   
The President said the government has erected strong pillars of uncorrupt political culture, national harmony, rule of law and economic stability in the process of constructing a building of success.   
He requested the trade unions to shed their old attitudes and join the government in the effort to build the country.   
“We urge trade unions to shed their old attitudes. Do not fight even for trivial things. We, as a political force, have given up perks and privileges entitled to us through constitution, gazettes and circulars. Let us have some time.
