Constitutional Council approves Justice Surasena as next CJ

The Constitutional Council has approved President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s nomination of Supreme Court Justice Preethi Padman Surasena as the next Chief Justice of Sri Lanka.  

The Constitutional Council, which met yesterday, ratified the nomination of Justice Surasena, one of the most senior judges on the Supreme Court bench.  

Chief Justice Murdu Fernando is scheduled to retire on July 27, paving the way for the appointment of Justice Surasena as her successor.
