Opposition parties met yesterday for yet another round of discussion on forming a common platform where parties could work on a common approach to face certain issues and run a campaign to educate people on them.
Opposition politicians including Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Premnath Dolawatte, Ramesh Pathirana, Mahinda Amaraweera, Dayasiri Jayasekara, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Mano Ganesan who is a Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) ally were among those who participated in the discussion which was held at the residence of Professor G. L. Peiris in Narahenpita yesterday.
MP Jayasekara told Daily Mirror that the opposition parties are looking towards launching a campaign island wide to educate people on various issues that come up from time to time. “We don’t intend to form an electoral alliance,” he said.
“We intend to have a dialogue with Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe and others and get them to participate in our programme,” he added.
Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna (SLPP) did not participate in yesterday’s discussion but former MP Sanjeewa Edirimanne told media that it is possible to work together in facing some issues. “Each opposition party should organize itself and become strong to face the government,” he said. Also he said one should not forget the fact that people’s perception is that SLPP is the force which could form the next government,” he also said.
