The ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ programme being rolled out under this government, is seeing slow and steady progress, an official of this initiative said.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror on the sidelines of a recent event launch, Additional Advisor to President for Clean Sri Lanka, Engineer.

S.P.C. Sugeeshwara, said under the big banner of this programme, they are implementing many projects.

“Under the national budget 48 projects are now being implemented. Some are garbage management projects, some are ethical improvement projects, some are social projects like sanitary and washrooms,” he revealed.

Responding to how many of the 48 have been completed, the official said a few have been done, dusted, and delivered.

“Important part is that all projects are running concurrently. Construction work has been launched. When you spend government money, many reports of approvals ought to be obtained. So have been procurements too. All those have been cleared and now it’s the execution part,” he explained.

“Now you see reasonable progress. There aren’t that much complaints as earlier. That is because these commissions are empowered power and act independently. Given these, there is reasonable progress,” he concluded.
