CI involved in Physiotherapist murder arrested

A Chief Inspector attached to Kundasale Police Training School was arrested on Thursday night (25) by Nuwara Eliya Police during a raid in Kandy on suspicion of aiding and abetting the murder of Physiotherapist P.R.Shyama Harshani.   

Police said the suspect CI was arrested on information provided by the main suspect under interrogation.   

He is alleged to have provided accommodation to the main suspect after the killing.   

Meanwhile, ASP Nuwara Eliya Division Chandana Basnayaka said the main suspect and his wife had made several trips to Jaffna during the daytime to avoid arrest and returned to the houses of his friends at night and that the investigations revealed that he was not preparing to flee from the country. The ASP said the ongoing investigations revealed that the suspect was not in possession of sufficient funds to flee from the country with his wife.  

The main suspect, his wife and a driver of Kundasale Pradeshiya Sabha suspected of aiding and abetting the main suspect had been produced in court on Thursday and detained for 48 hours for further questioning.
