Alleging that the present government is also dancing to the tune of the IMF, Front Line Socialist Party (FLSP) Secretary Education Affairs Pubudu Jayagoda yesterday said what people heard was the voice of IMF through President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s throat, vocal cords, tongue and lips.
“We have now heard the voice of the IMF through President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s throat, vocal cords, tongue and lips,” Jayagoda told a press conference.
“The President and others in the government pledged to come up with a new debt restructuring plan during the elections. They pledged to abolish certain legislations such as Economic Transformation Bill, Public Finance Bill. Debt Management Bill. They opposed liberalism. However, it seems that the government is prepared to continue with these legislations and also continue with liberalism,” he added.
He said the government has allowed the multinational companies to exploit Sri Lanka. “Even late President J. R Jayewardene did not privatize special economic zones during his time. However, the present government has even proposed such an exercise,” he said in this regard.
