Arrested for videoing women’s privates

 An individual who videoed the private parts of several women and attempted to extort money or demanded sex bribes by blackmailing them by way of threatening to share the video clippings on internet and another who aided and abetted it were arrested by the Computer Crime Investigation Branch of the CID in the North Central Province.   
 The 36 year old main suspect was a resident of Mahagalkadawala area and the 45 year old other suspect from Ibbagamuwa.   
According to the Computer Crime Investigation Unit that initiated investigations of a complaint received from a 24 year-old girl employed at a business establishment in Thambuttegama town, the suspect who videoed her privates while she was travelling in the bus had demanded a ransom of Rs.200,000 or an opportunity to sexually abuse her otherwise said he would share the video clippings on the internet,   

 He had used several SIM cards and memory chip cards obtained on the identity card of another individual in Akuressa area making his living as a manual labourer who was innocent to the incident and that the second suspect from Ibbagamuwa area had stolen his identity card and obtained SIM cards for the main suspect.   
 During investigations of the complaint the naked photos of several young women taken by the suspect came to light.   
 The victims included young women living in the suspect’s neighbourhood, his friends’ fiancées, and those in hostels.   
 Police said the suspect behaved in an unruly manner during investigations and attempted to destroy the memory cards   
 The two suspects were produced before Thambuttegama magistrate and remanded till January 10.
