Army camp in Galle Fort to be relocated

The Army camp in the Galle Fort is to be shifted to another location. Minister Nalin Hewage told the District Coordinating Committee that the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence had recommended the move.   

The District Coordinating Committee met yesterday (27) under the Chairmanship of Minister Nalin Hewage and Southern Province Governor Bandula Harischandra.   

The Minister said all government offices in the Galle Fort would be shifted to other locations.   

He pointed out that the Galle town had a Navy camp and the police headquarters to provide protection to the area and that the need of an army camp would not arise. He said the investment programme for the Galle Fort could be implemented after shifting the army camp.
