3rd Edition of Eng. (Dr.) A.C. Visvalingam Annual Award for Most Outstanding Engineer launched in Colombo

The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) called for nominees for the Eng. (Dr.) A. C. Visvalingam Annual Award For Most Outstanding Engineer at their launch held at the IESL, Colombo, yesterday.   

Speaking at the occasion Dr.Visvalingam said, “we want to select someone, the most competent person and he or she should’ve done a notable service to the country. Your serving the nation and the public”.  

“The nation must bring forth the engineers who have sacrificed so much for the profession and the country”, he added.  

Awarded for the best awardee, aged between 40-70, holding 15 years of exposure, the proposed once in a lifetime Award, will recognize an outstanding Engineer with “exemplary commitment”.  

Eng. (Dr.) A C Visvalingam, an Honourary Life Member of the IESL, Structural and Civil Engineer of international repute, was anxious to make such an award, having recognised the need for the professional enhancement of engineers to the benefit of the society and country.  

Eng. Granie R Jayalath, the President of the IESL, introduced the award and mentioned that engineering has a vital role to play in national development.  

This prestigious award, named in honour of Eng. Dr. A.C. Visvalingam, a pioneer in engineering excellence, is dedicated to recognising an engineer who has made significant contributions to the development of the country. The award aims to celebrate not only technical excellence but also the spirit of innovation, leadership, and national service within the engineering community.  

The establishment of this award marks an important milestone in promoting engineering excellence and highlighting the critical role engineers play in nation-building. By acknowledging and celebrating these achievements, we hope to inspire future generations of engineers to dedicate their talents toward the progress and betterment of society.
