Traditional New Year folk games at Kesbewa

Some of the memorable moments from the New Year festival


The third annual New Year celebrations of Lakmali Dancing Academy were held at Kesbewa, Walawwa premises recently. The aim of having this celebration was to showcase the skills of children studying the subject of dance and music, and to promote traditional New Year folk games. 

This event was organised by the students and the teachers of Lakmali Dancing Academy. The events were conducted under the leadership of the founder of the dance institute, Nilmini Lakmali Senanayake.  

The dance academy gifted a set of books to each child.

Those present at the occasion were Prof. Dharmakeerthi Sri Ranjan, the former head of department Mass Media Studies at Sri Palee Campus, prolific writer Saroja Kannangara, Lion Manoj de Silva, President of the Hokandara Lions Club, film producer and artiste Lion Saman Alankara, cultural officer Lalani S. Premasiri, veteran singer Rupa Indumathi, veteran actress Nilangani Perera and the Chairman of the Kasbawa Cultural Board Nanda Uduwala.
