The Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre became a theater of global innovation this week as the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) 2025 shattered records with over 3,300 participants from 100 nations. Amidst a field of 27,000 global hopefuls, Sri Lanka’s Burhani Serendib School delivered a formidable performance, securing two top-30 rankings and signalling the nation’s rising dominance in the competitive youth robotics circuit.
The World Robot Olympiad (WRO) International Final 2025 concluded on November 28 in Singapore at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre after three days of high-energy competition, innovation, and global collaboration.
Over 3,300 young robotics enthusiasts from more than 100 countries participated in the largest turnout in the event’s 21-year history.
Under the theme “The Future of Robots,” nearly 600 teams showcased solutions to real-world challenges across RoboMission, RoboSports, Future Innovators, and Future Engineers. This year saw global participation rise to 27,920 teams, driven by initiatives like RoboStarter and WRO Learn, which introduced over 14,000 students to robotics.
Sri Lanka Makes Its Mark
Sri Lanka proudly represented the nation through two teams from Burhani Serendib School delivering strong performances on the world stage:
Project R.E.A.C.H — 26th out of 58 teams
Participants: Taher Iqbal Hussain Taher Hussain Ammar Mustafa
Team Smart Steps — 30th out of 58 teams
Participants: Burhanuddin Shabbir Burhanuddin Asgerally Insyah Hamza
Their achievements demonstrate the steady rise of Sri Lanka’s youth robotics ecosystem and the efforts of local mentors driving students toward global excellence.
The closing ceremony celebrated innovation, teamwork, and problem-solving. Ms. Lynette Tan, CEO of Space Faculty, noted:
“These young talents have shown us what the future of robotics truly looks like. Platforms like WRO inspire the next generation of changemakers.”

Sri Lanka now prepares for its next milestone the WRO Sri Lanka National Finals on 28th March 2026.
