S. Thomas’ College, Gurutalawa opens its gates on October 25 for prospective students and their parents to visit the school and study the opportunities available for education

S. Thomas’ College, Gurutalawa (STCG), one of the largest boarding schools in Sri Lanka, has made elaborate plans to host its ‘Open Day’ on October 25 (Saturday). The event is designed to showcase the school’s unique campus, rich traditions and state-of-the-art facilities to prospective students and their families.
According to a media release issued by the school, the ‘Open Day’ will give an opportunity to prospective students, parents and the public to visit the school, meet the head master, teachers and the school management and get a first-hand experience of what this school has to offer.
After the arrival and registration (9.30 am -10.00 am), visitors to the school will be taken on a guided tour around this education facility. There will be a break for refreshments between 1pm and 1.30 pm. This break will be followed by an information fair. Afterwards, there will be testimonials by parents and teachers. The event will come to a closure at 3.30 pm.
This institute is regarded as “a home away from home” where students receive a solid education from kindergarten till GCE O/L.

As a branch of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia, boys who receive their education at S. Thomas’ College, Gurutalawa have the opportunity to continue their studies at Mount Lavinia.
Some of the facilities afforded to students are; residential facilities where the school boasts of a newly refurbished hostel, a dining hall which offers hygienically prepared meals using farm-fresh produce, classrooms equipped with smart boards and high-speed internet, a modern science laboratory, an extensive library and a stable of horses that facilitate horse riding.
Students are put through structured routines where everyone must follow a carefully supervised timetable and balance academic studies with sports and extracurricular activities.
S. Thomas’ College was founded by Dr. R. L. Hayman. S. Thomas’ College, Gurutalawa was established as a centre of holistic education. The school is inspired by the principles and ethos of Gordonstoun School in Scotland.
