Daybridge International School Celebrates Excellence at 2025 Annual Prize Giving

Daybridge International School celebrated its Annual Prize Giving Ceremony 2025 in grand style at the Bishop’s College Auditorium, honoring the academic brilliance, talent, and all-round achievements of its students. The event brought together the school’s leadership, Founder and Directress Mrs.Iromi Weerasinghe; Directors Mr.Ruven Weerasinghe, and Mr.Revan Weerasinghe; Head of Administration Mrs.Venuri Weerasinghe; Principal Mrs. Dilrukshi Jayarathne; Deputy Principal Mrs. Nilufa Fariz; Primary Principal Mrs. Sudeesha Lokuge and Deputy Head of Primary Mrs. Yasmin Heenpella, alongside proud parents, teachers, and a distinguished gathering of guests, all coming together to celebrate the school’s brightest achievers.
The ceremony commenced with a warm welcome speech by Head Prefect Riushaan Ibrahim, setting the tone for an evening filled with pride and inspiration.
This year’s event was graced by Mr. Prashantha Lal De Alwis, Principal of Sri Lanka Law College and President’s Counsel, an eminent figure in the legal field, who attended as the Chief Guest. In his keynote address, Mr. De Alwis spoke passionately about the importance of balancing education with sports, arts, and culture in shaping well-rounded, holistic individuals. A well-known advocate against corporal punishment, he also shared insights from his active role in drafting the new Act aimed at eradicating corporal punishment in Sri Lanka. His message deeply resonated with the audience, especially the young students, encouraging them to pursue excellence with empathy, discipline, and integrity.
A highlight of the evening was the special recognition of student Hesali Nehansa Peiris, who brought immense pride to the school with her outstanding achievements in motorsports — winning the MRF Global (Pvt) Ltd Challenge Trophy – Group O and securing the position of 2nd Runner-up (Rookie Category) in the Petronas TVS India One Make Championship 2025.
The ceremony also honoured the top achievers of the recent O-Level and A-Level examinations, both local and London, showcasing Daybridge’s unwavering commitment to nurturing excellence across academics and extracurricular pursuits — a true reflection of the school’s dedication to developing diverse talents beyond the classroom.
The school also celebrated its Western Music Team, which secured First Place in the All-Island Western Music and Dance Competition 2025 organised by the Ministry of Education, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to nurturing artistic excellence alongside academics.
The evening featured lively performances by the school choir and dance troupe, adding color and rhythm to the proceedings. Awards were presented across multiple categories, recognizing not just academic and athletic prowess, but also creativity, leadership, and community service.
Principal Mrs. Dilrukshi Jayarathne addressed the gathering, reading out the Principal’s Report, commending the students’ accomplishments, and reaffirming the school’s dedication to providing a holistic education that empowers learners to thrive in all spheres of life.
The event concluded with the National Anthem and a heartfelt vote of thanks by Deputy Head Prefect Aaron Elisha, followed by photo sessions with the award winners and special guests.
