The Sri Lanka Cancer Society conducted an awareness programme on October 3 at The Kingsbury Colombo, in commemoration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed annually in October to promote early detection, education, and support.
The event ‘Breast Cancer Awareness in Focus’ was a resounding success according to the event’s organizers with the programme drawing a full house of 150 attendees. The initiative combined a sophisticated high tea experience with a fashion show, a talk by a medical professional, and a moving testimony by a breast cancer survivor.
The programme featured a presentation by a reputed cancer oncologist Dr. Damayanthi Pieris, which provided valuable insights into breast cancer awareness and prevention. This was followed by a heartfelt story from a cancer survivor, which resonated strongly with the audience and added a powerful human element to the afternoon.
Highlighting the spirit of solidarity and generosity, all models, fashion designers, and makeup and hair stylists contributed their services entirely free of charge. Their commitment helped create an elegant and professional atmosphere that was deeply appreciated by attendees.
Overall, “Breast Cancer Awareness in Focus” was not only a sold-out event, but also a meaningful gathering that successfully blended style, education, and inspiration to support a vital cause.
