In loving memory of Kumara Mohotta Mudianselage Christopher Vijitha Lakshman Seneviratne (C.V.L. Seneviratne), Attorney-at-Law & Notary Public, J.P.U.M., of Ekala Walauwwa, Ekala, I take a moment to remember and honour his Birthday Remembrance on March 21, 1941.
On what would have been his 85th birthday, he is fondly remembered not only as a devoted husband, cherished father, and loving grandfather, but also as an exceptional colleague and a distinguished member of the legal fraternity. Even though nine months have passed since his passing, his presence continues to be felt through the wisdom he shared, the calm strength he embodied, and the unruffled, composed demeanour with which he carried himself in every aspect of life.
To those of us who had the privilege of working alongside him, he was a source of guidance, encouragement, and steady leadership. His integrity, courage, perseverance, and resilience especially in challenging times set a standard that many admired and sought to follow. His words of wisdom and quiet confidence left a lasting impression on colleagues and clients alike.
Fondly known as “Viji,” his kindness and compassion extended well beyond the courtroom to all his kith and kin. He spoke often with pride and deep affection of his family, to whom he devoted his life with unwavering love and selfless generosity. It was evident that he was not only a remarkable professional but also a devoted family man who raised his six children with patience, care, and strong values, guiding them to become who they are today.
His distinguished career spanning over 50 years at the unofficial bar was marked by an unblemished reputation for excellence and integrity. His service as President, Acting District Judge and State Attorney representing the Mount Lavinia Bar Association reflected his leadership and commitment to the noble profession. Beyond his legal work, his contributions as a Founder Director of Lanka Milk Foods Pvt Ltd and as an active member and President of the Lions Club of Dehiwela–Mount Lavinia, District 306 A, demonstrated his dedication to service and community.
A proud old boy of Maris Stella College, Negombo, he remained deeply connected to his alma mater, serving as a founder member of its Colombo Branch and later as its President, always upholding the guiding principle: “Be Noble and Gentle in All that You Do, to God and to Neighbour be Faithful and True.” His life was firmly rooted in his Christian faith, and he lived by Godly principles that inspired many around him.
On this day of remembrance, I join his loving wife Nirmailee along with his children Ranmaliee, Minoli, Hasanjalie, Naeomal, Ruwindumaliee, Melissa, Sons in law, Daughter in law and the 10 Grand Children in honouring a life so well lived with immense respect, gratitude, and admiration for all that he was to his family, his colleagues, and the wider community. May his beautiful soul rest in eternal peace with our Lord in Heaven and rise in glory.
