Hunupitiya Railway Station which is a main station situated along the main railway line has been neglected by the Department of Railways over a long period.
Large crowds of commuters travel by train from this station daily. People of the area have been requesting the Department of Railways to improve the station and develop its platforms. However it appears that this request had fallen on deaf ears.

Commuters experience much difficulty in boarding these trains from the very low platforms. Construction materials had been dumped in several places but work has not commenced as yet. There are no toilet facilities for the general public available at the station.

When inquired from the Supervisor A. Rajiv about this situation, he said the construction materials brought for the work at Hunupitiya Station have been removed to another site on the instruction of superior officers.

Commuters inquire as to why the platforms of the station such as Walpola, Bulugoda, Batuwatta and Wanavasala have been developed and Hunupitiya Station has been neglected.
