Teacher arrested for sexually abusing schoolgirl

A teacher from the primary section of a school in Hambantota was arrested yesterday by Hambantota Harbour police on suspicion of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl from the school.

Investigations revealed that the girl had been on her way to school on Tuesday morning (28) when the teacher who offered to drop her at the school premises, took her in his car to a guest house and sexually abused her.

When the girl was late to return after school, the parents made inquiries from the principal to find that she had been absent from school.

However, they had received information that she had been seen getting a lift in a car while walking to school.

The parents were looking for the whereabouts of the girl when she returned and told them that a teacher had taken her to a guest house.

Police arrested the suspect teacher during investigations of her father’s complaint and he was to be produced before Hambantota magistrate today.
