The SLFP discusses its grievances only with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa as the SLFP extended its support to the two leaders at the elections, SLFP youth league member and Habaraduwa organiser of the party, Tisara Gunasinghe said.

He added that the SLFP does not pay much attention to chit MPs of the SLPP who reads statements written by someone else at press conferences.

He told the media that certain negative remarks made by SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam on the SLFP and Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila, it was a joke when Kariyawasam voted against the No Confidence Motion brought by the opposition against Minister Gammanpila after he asked him to resign from his portfolio accepting the blame on the fuel price hike.  “We pay no attention to useless and foolish remarks made by certain nincompoops in Parliament or out of it who don’t have an iota of Parliamentary tradition, decorum or participatory democracy,’ Gunasinghe said.  He admitted that a section of the SLFP were not much convinced about the outcome of the discussion held between President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the top brass of the party.
However, the SLFP politburo and the Central Committee were to meet this week to assess the outcome of the discussion, he noted.  However, Gunasinghe maintained that the discussion with President Rajapaksa centered on how the two parties could go ahead together while strengthening President Rajapaksa’s hand and protecting the government.
