Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) yesterday invited former Ministers Wimal Weerawansa and Udaya Gammanpila who were expelled from the Cabinet and other parties who are supporting them, to join them to launch a common struggle against  the government.

This open invitation was made by SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madumma Bandara, S. M. Marikkar and Mujibur Rahaman who had a joint press conference at the opposition leader’s office yesterday.

“We are going to launch continuous street protests from March 15 to force the government to go for a general election. We invite Mr. Weerawansa and Mr. Gammanpila to join us in our struggle,” Mr. Madduma Bandara said.
“We have also heard that Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara and the SLFP are contemplating on leaving the government and we invite them to join us if they are willing to embrace our ideologies,” he added.
Mr. Marikkar said general elections could be in the cards within a year as more MPs are planning to leave the government.

Mr. Rahaman said people have already begun to launch a struggle as incidents have been reported from some filling stations.
