Man arrested for throwing slipper at foreign tourist remanded till Mar 8

 The young man who had been arrested on Thursday (23) on  suspicion of hitting a foreign tourist woman travelling by  Udarata Menike express train with a slipper was yesterday produced before Bandarawela  Acting Magistrate Kenneth D. Silva and remanded till March 08.   The suspect Mohamed Manaz was a resident of Walasbedda in Bandarawela.   


Police said the suspect standing by the railway line had  thrown the slipper at a tourist hanging onto the footboard handle. It had struck another tourist woman standing on the footboard while sightseeing, and it had instantly appeared on social media.    

A senior police official said Bandarawela SSP Pradeep  Kalupahana watched the incident on social media and instructed  Bandarawela, Haputale and Diyathalwa Police to arrest the suspect. Police teams under OIC Bandarawela Police CI Nishantha Dissanayake had conducted investigations and arrested the suspect.
