By Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama

Social activist and cinema artiste Damitha Abeyratne who  was a key member of the Galle Face Aragalaya yesterday said she had  joined hands with opposition leader, Sajith Premadasa on behalf of the  country.   While addressing a Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) rally in  Polonnaruwa to extend her support, she said that she was appearing on a  political stage for the first time, not because of anything but on  behalf of the country.

We engaged in the Aragalaya campaign to chase away the  Rajapaksas but not to chase away every leader who was appointed as  president. We walked the talk, and all of them joined hands with us.  There were no leaders in the Aragalaya, everyone gave leadership to it.

Abeyratne showered her praise on the people who came for the  Aragalaya.

The Aragala campaign, which we all were part of at Galle Face  Green, saved the country. But we should save the country completely by  chasing away the remaining thieves.

The groups that came to pursue Rajapaksa and who joined  with the ruling party to pursue certain fraudulent motives are afraid to  hear the name Sajith Premadasa, she said. She also stated that the  people should obey and honour men of integrity.

During her speech, she recalled about the fear psychosis  unleashed by terror elements during the 1980s.
She reminded that former  President Ranasinghe Premadasa took bold steps to control the massacre of  innocent people during the period.
