Claiming that Sri Lanka is not completely out of the woods with the Covid-19 threat, Deputy Director-General of Public Health Services Dr Hemantha Herath said it was important for everyone to continue adhering to basic health practices.

He told reporters that there has been an increase in Covid cases in many countries such as China and India recently and that it is important to remain on alert.  “Even though we don’t have a serious Covid threat in Sri Lanka at the moment, we can’t say we are completely out of danger,” he said.  “It can emerge at any time. The most efficient and simple way to be safe is to continue adhering to the basic health practices such as maintaining a one-metre distance, wearing face masks and washing hands,” Dr Herath said.

He said only a few infections are reported daily right now and added that there could be more positive cases in the community as all the suspect cases are not subject to Covid tests.
