Bangladeshi High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Tareq Md Ariful Islam said his country closely follows developments of the Colombo Port City and the enactment of the new piece of legislation to govern the activities of the special economic zone coming under it.

In an interview with Daily Mirror, he said with the enactment of the new legislation and the subsequent appointment of the members of the Colombo Port City Economic Commission, hopefully, more details about the activities of the project will come up.

“Like others in the region, our business community must also be following the developments with interest. It must be featured in their future business expansion plans. Hopefully, there would be outreach from the side of the CPC. If we are officially approached, we will do the needful. At the same time, we will also facilitate the matter for our interested business entities,” he said.

Also, he said Bangladesh supported Sri Lanka at the UNHRC in the spirit of good neighbourliness and in view of excellent bilateral relations.
